Infinite Insignificance

Wednesday night was my first time back in front of a youth group as a pastor in more than 9 months. Its a very interesting thing to think about all the events that actually led to that moment. It is also an interesting thing to know that there are so many friends who are dealing with struggles after such terrible storms tore through the southeast. It kind of brings into perspective what is important and what isn’t. Whether we want to admit it, there are a lot of things in our lives that really don’t matter. The fact is that our worries are very insignificant. Not that they don’t matter, or that they make no difference in our lives. Rather, in the light of the power of God, they simply do not register. God provides, gives, and blesses regardless of what is going on around us. We miss those things by worrying and fretting constantly. When we allow our emotions to cloud our focus on what is really going on, God moving around us and doing what He does, then we miss out on a great deal of peace in our lives.
I have seen too many times the destruction of powerful storms. I have witnessed first hand the destructive power of human will upon human life. I have also seen and witnessed and experience the power of God inside of those things, rebuilding, renewing, and restoring. I testify to that now. I know beyond a shadow of doubt, what God can and will do. Give to Him, what it is that is bothering you and rest knowing that it is in His control.
Now please don’t mistake what I am saying here. I am not saying that God doesn’t want to hear about what you’re dealing with. In fact I’m saying He does. And in that He has the power to do all that you ask. What I am wanting you to know is that regardless of where this finds you, God is control. He is in complete control. So I guess what I am saying is that in order to find peace, we must accept God’s control, and thus find the rest that we all so dearly need.
